If I go home
before you do
this is what
I'm going to do

I'll run through fields
so bright and green
the sweetest color
ever seen

and then I'll stop
but not to rest
'cause I won't be tired
that's the best

I'll look around
and see the sun
soft and round
smiling at everyone

Then I'll run again
but you see
just for fun
there to the sea

the waves will roll
against the shore
calling me
to try some more

and there are mermaids
mermen too
dancing near the rocks
of blue

I'll wave and wander
on to see
what other marvels
there could be

trees of red
with sky blue leaves
flowers as wavy
as the sea

clouds of blue
and green and pink
with laughing faces
five I think

I'll plop right down
on grass so thick
it's like my bed
a feather tick

and glance around
I see some spires
is that a city
past the mires

but they're not mires
they're golden sheep
grazing in the
grass so deep

I jump up fast
I want to see
the spires, a city
gleaming free

I do not have to
stop for rest
my legs my body's
strong at last

I walk right through
a singing brook
and stop and stoop
to take a look

that can't be me
I gape in surprise
where's the white hair
the wrinkled gaze

my skin is smooth
my hair is long
and brown with gold
and silver strong

I look again
surprised to see
the city closer
than it seemed to be

I stroll along
and find a road
that wanders through
hilly abodes

but I'll stop here
don't want to spoil
your surprise
when you arrive

so if I go home
before you do
this is what
I plan to do

I'll explore
set up our home
sit on the doorstep
and wait for you to
come home
too
